Cigarette brand Lucky Strike was introduced to the world by R.A.Patterson of Richmond, United States in 1871, first as a chewing tobacco and then as a cigarette. Soon American Tobacco Company became the owner of Lucky Strike. ATC purchased Lucky Strike company in 1905, challenging with this R.J.Reynold's Camel, which is the 2nd largest cigarette tobacco company in the world.
The slogan "it is toasted" appeared in 1917 that explained to the customers that the producing process of the toasting tobacco was used instead of sun-drying. Lucky Strike cigarettes are said to possess an unique flavor.
An abbreviation "L.S. M.F.T" meaning "Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco" appeared the same year.
Lucky Strike pack had dark green color at first. In 1942 the mark's signature colors changed to white. Formally the goal was to reduce copper and chromium materials usage, and that was shown in a successful advertising campaign that had the slogan "Lucky Strike Green went to war!" But, as it turned out it was done to lessen costs and to augment the part of smoking women.
Its logo was created by Reymond Loewy - a famous industrial designer. New filtered styles were introduced in San Francisco in1996, but they became available all over the USA only after 1999. Nevertheless, Lucky Strike will go on to have distribution and marketing support in areas controlled by BAT.
