Camel is a cigarette brand that was introduced by American company RJR (R.J. Reynolds Tobacco) in 1913. These cigarettes have United States and Turkish tobacco blend. Camel was blended for easier smoking in comparison to harsher marks that were popular when it had its first appearance. Additionally, Camel was advertised, prior to formal release, by an accurate advert campaign that had "teasers" which simply stated that "Camels are coming." That marketing approach was, actually, a model for efforts to influence people opinion which coincided with the USA’ entrance into the World War I. Another advertising tactics was the usage of ‘Old Joe', a Circus camel, that was taken through towns and used to spread free cigarettes. The Camel was the prototype for the camel on cigarette packs. The brand's slogan ,"I would walk a mile for a Camel!" The very famous variant of this brand was in the soft pack with unfiltered cigarettes. Camel achieved the peak of its popularity through celebrities such as Edward R. Murrow, news broadcaster, he used to smoke up to 4 packages of Camel every day. In 1987, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco made Joe Camel as the talisman for the mark. USA Medical Association reported in 1991, that five and six year old children recognized easily Joe Camel than Fred Flintstone , Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny. That is why the association asked R.J. Reynolds Tobacco to pull their Joe Camel campaign. Reynolds Tobacco declined this request, as the result more appeals followed. On July 11, 1997, the Joe Camel campaign was stopped and replaced with an adult campaign that addressed to the desires of 20 olds or something. 2005, Camel initiated some changes to Turkish blends after changing the color of a filter , its design and adding the name on the cigarette paper. A blend "Turkish Silver", which was a light variant of either Royal or the Turkish Gold type as well became available this year. After smoking you can still see the text on the paper on the ashes. The city where R.J.R. was founded is Winston-Salem,is is in North Carolina. The city was named "Camel City" because of this brand's popularity.
